What Causes Cancer?

Back in the early part of the 1990’s a film called ‘The Medicine Man’ was released and the story revolved around a doctor working in South America who discovers the cure for cancer, only to lose it in a local disaster. The cure will come eventually and the world will rejoice that this awful disease that can strike anyone at any time, has been been silenced. Because we don’t fully understand exactly what causes cancer it means that we can only take certain precautions to avoid it.

First off it is a good idea to understand exactly what cancer is and try to ascertain whether it is hereditary or something you can acquire. Well, it is a disease that’s characterized by a large number of cells that continue to grow and divide.

In rare circumstances a benign tumor may turn malignant. It is responsible for thirteen percent of all deaths around the world. Nearly all cancers are caused by abnormalities in the genetic material of the transformed cells.

For some people the problem lies not with any form of external poison although faults with their parents DNA or genetic makeup can result in a person being born with the diseased cells. It is still not fully understood why one person will contract the disease and another be free from it but it is believed that the interactions between any carcinogens and each person’s particular DNA is complicated.

Owing to the worldwide problem of cancer, it is regularly studied throughout the world and extending our knowledge on the subject. We are continually trying to find out why this disease attacks some and not others. By understanding the origins of cancer, perhaps we will be able to avoid contracting it until we come up with a cure.

It is now believed by many that the food we eat could be responsible for many cases. People are generally eating too much of the wrong things such as an excess salt intake, too much saturated fat and certain dairy produce.

Cancer does not have any prejudice when it comes to invading a person’s body as it can strike anywhere. Some people can have cancer for several years before they have any symptoms and this does not help their chances of being cured. Advancements in medical science and techniques means that cancer in many cases can be treated and often completely cured.
