Resveratrol is a chemical compound that is found in several plants which is produced under attack from viruses such as fungi and bacteria. Resveratrol has been proved to have beneficial cardiovascular effects along with anti cancer, anti inflammatory and blood sugar lowering effects. The researchers at Weill Medical College of Cornell University reported in November 2008 that resveratrol use has reduced the plaque formation in the brains of animals. This is a big component of Alzheimer and other Neurodegenerative diseases. They reported that plaque reduction is due to the ability of resveratrol to remove copper. It said that oral resveratrol in mice has lead to large reduction in brain plaque in the medial cortex, striatum and hypothalamus section of the brain.

In the recent University of Pittsburg School of Medicine study regarding resveratrol, it was found out that resveratrol offers protection against UV exposure as well. Although no clinical trials on humans regarding it have been published.
