Every hair growth cycle would involve this. Balance 90% is in a growth phase. Thinning of hair is usually noticed when the loss is in excess of the normal hair loss pattern. These include: Alopecia areata – Affects both males and females; Propecia is a remedy for baldness in men with mild to moderate hair loss on the top of the head and the front of the mid-scalp area. It increases hair growth, improves hair re-growth, and slows down hair loss. It works only on scalp hair and does not affect hair on other parts of the body. hair loss is rapid and the most common pattern is one or more spots of hair loss on the scalp. This is the result of dysfunctional immune system when the white cells of the body attacks the hair follicles. When the entire scalp hair has fallen it is called Alopecia Totalis. Alopecia Universalis is a rather uncommon condition where all the hair of the body is lost.
Genetic reasons: Called male pattern baldness, this can affect about 25% of men by the time they are 30. Over and above the reason being genetic, it could also be due to testosterone the male hormone. Testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which slows down or stops hair growth and produces weaker, shorter hair. Men not having any testosterone would not suffer from male pattern baldness.
Skin diseases: hair loss and affectation of the scalp can also happen due to this. Dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, scalp fungus such as ringworm and tinea captis are some of the ailments caused by skin diseases.
Sudden illness or fever: you can see large chunks of hair falling off after any serious illness or fever. This is a temporary event though and soon passes off.
Other causes of hair loss include; Childbirth, The Menopause, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy and Age. There are other reasons for hair loss over and above these main ones.
Hair loss can be treated when you can stop hair fall and promote re-growth. Some ways you could treat hair loss naturally are:
1. Vitamins A, B, C and E are hair promoters. Include them in the diet. What is the importance of these vitamins? They not only provide sebum, they also help in increase of blood circulation to the scalp by absorbing more oxygen and collagen.
2. Importance of scalp care: Remember to massage your scalp regularly with herbal oils like olive oil, jojoba oil, amla oil. In conditions of alopecia areata, several oils are proven to be beneficial.
3. Avoid scalp abuse: Stop daily use of harmful chemical shampoos and blow drying. Chemical processes like coloring as well as straightening can damage your hair and scalp. Even a daily hair wash with hot water can damage hair as well as the scalp with the drying up of natural oils and hair breaking easily.
4. Going the herbalk way: Try using powders of amla, shikakai, henna and ritha as shampoo and conditioner. One of the richest sources of natural vitamin C is amla powder, known for its anti-oxidant properties. If you want a hair cleanser which cleanses without depriving your hair of its natural oils, go for Shikakai, also known as the Fruit for hair. After this use henna as a natural conditioner.
5. Bring lifestyle changes: Reduce stress, an important factor in hair loss. Do this by doing exercises and meditation. Quit smoking; the nicotine in cigarettes constricts blood vessels and decreases blood flow to the scalp. To avoid damage to the scalp avoid UV rays from sun exposure.
